Updated and expanded curriculum and technology will greet Chamberlain students as they head back to class on Monday.
As the high school enters into its third year in the Classroom Connections program, elementary and middle school teachers will be using the technology in their classrooms for the first year.
All K-8 certified staff are receiving notebook laptop computers, which utilize the district’s wireless network to connect staff with curriculum, teaching tools and technology.
Additionally, 10 teachers in the district received grants to implement SMART boards in their classrooms. A SMART board is an interactive whiteboard. The boards feature touch-sensitive displays that connect wirelessly to a teacher’s computer.
Superintendent Tim Mitchell foresees the expanded technology to benefit the school by improving academic achievement and teacher effectiveness and by promoting 21st century learning skills in students. Additionally, the teachers can use the technology to promote parental involvement and increase communication with parents.
District-wide, the school will be pursuing state and national accreditation this fall. AdvancED national accreditation teams will be in the district at the end of October. Mitchell noted that AdvancED accreditation focuses on continually improving student achievement at all levels in the district.
On the curriculum end of the spectrum, the Saxon mathematics program is updated for the year with new books and CDs. One bonus for math students is the option to take a CD home for homework, instead of the book. This is available to students Fourth Grade and higher.
