Byers claims her second state cross country title

Ella Byers won the Class A state cross country title as a freshman, took fourth as a sophomore, but didn’t compete as a junior due to health problems. As a senior, Byers topped all Class A girls and was awarded the championship title for the last time in her high school career. Byers recorded a time of 18:22.78 to claim the first place award and break her own state meet record for the Sioux Falls course set in 2015 at 18:41. “It was cool to win on the same course I did as a freshmen,” said Byers. “I didn’t think it would be possible.... having to come back after a summer of not running.”
