Chamberlain School District Board President, Keith Reuer, opened Monday night’s meeting by thanking Dr. Debra Johnson for her years of service to the Chamberlain School District and presented her with a gift. The meeting was Johnson’s last meeting as Superintendent of the school district and will officially be retired as of July 1st. A social with the board members, staff and community members was held prior to the meeting to honor Johnson and congratulate her on her upcoming retirement.
Business Manager Michelle Willrodt gave the financial reports which were approved by the board without questions.
A public hearing for the 2020-2021 proposed budget was held. Reuer opened the meeting for public comment, however, none were offered. The public hearing was closed without comment and the budget was adopted as presented.
The progress of the summer programs were discussed. The classroom portion of Driver’s Education is completed, and the driving portion is now underway. The Extended School Year is underway and summer school will start in July. Graduation will be on Saturday, June 27. Kindergarten Round-up is set for July 7. The number of children registered for the roundup is significantly down from the normal 80-90 student average, so the administration is looking for another opportunity to get kids registered for the event. In the PAWS program, over 70 students/parents are picking up the weekly activity supplies.
