Chamberlain motel receives state-wide attention

A Chamberlain motel, owned by a California company AG Dakota, LLC, received statewide attention last week when KELOLAND TV investigative reporter Angela Kennecke reported on the the South Dakota “Motel Mystery.”

The Bel Aire Motel located on E. King Street was sold by Mid-Town Properties, which consists of a a group of Chamberlain area residents, on a contract for deed to AG Dakota in May of 2018. It operated for a short period of time under several different managers but by the end of year it was closed and remained closed all of 2019.

It was reported on KELOLAND that the motel was closed due to a mud slide. City engineer Greg Powell stated that there was no slide of any kind. And, that the city mowed the property during the summer of 2019 as the owner was not doing it.
