City lays ground work for future development

On Monday night, the Chamberlain City Commission approved a contract with SEH (Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc.) for $43,000 to design the infrastructure (sewer, water, and road) for the Priebe land recently purchased. The entire project, to install sewer, water and build one main road that could potentially tie in with the hospital, which would allow for a second access for emergency vehicles, is estimated to cost $740,000, not including a survey to plat the area for residential and commercial lots.

Regarding the sewer line, City Engineer Greg Powell said, “It is cheaper to build and in the long run a lot less expensive to run it back all the way to AmericanInn. A lift station needed for that elevation would cost a quarter of million dollars to install, plus you would have ongoing maintenance and inspections issues.”
