City trying to fund new street project
At Monday night's meeting, Chamberlain City Commissioners approved Resolution #19- 05, an action required in order to seek assistance through the South Dakota Dept. of Transportation Community Access Program for construction of a street that would connect Byron Boulevard near the Sanford Chamberlain Hospital to SD Highway 50 near the AmericInn hotel and I-90 interchange. The city of Chamberlain would be responsible for all engineering expenses associated with the project and a minimum of twenty percent of all construction costs. The city would also be responsible for all maintenance and repairs to the route after the construction of the project.
“It's a long shot, as you automatically lose 50 points if you've received any grant money from the state in the last five years, but there's always a chance there won't be a lot of other applicants,” said Powell.
