Country Colleens celebrate 60 years
Before there were tutorials on the web, home-inspired magazine subscriptions or 24 hour HGTV, there was the county extensions clubs. The Country Colleens is one of those former extension clubs, and now remains as a neighborhood club, enjoying their 60th year as a community organization. There are currently 13 active members and two honorary members, Mary Petersen and Sally Meyer.
Mary Petersen was instrumental in forming the club that is based in the Ola area, south of Chamberlain. The club was organized on October 15, 1957, at the home of Florence Andera. She and Mary Peterson had been visiting for some time about the possibility of starting a neighborhood extension club. They invited a few other interested women and with the help of Grace Priebe, a member of the Hi Neighbor club, the club was organized with seven members.
