CSD and Civil Rights Division draft out-of-court settlement

New process will remedy alleged racism in voting practices

Future elections for the Chamberlain School Board will be fairer to minority voters and constituents if a plan to remedy alleged racism in the election process is approved.

The Chamberlain School Board advanced a consent decree revamping its election policies in an effort to allow “American Indian citizens an equal opportunity to participate in the political process and elect candidates of their choice” during its Monday night meeting. The board is seeking public input on the decree, which is expected to be adopted during the board’s May 26 meeting.
