Development bids come in high, Priebe project to be re-designed
Chamberlain City Engineer Greg Powell informed the commission last Tuesday night that the bids for the Priebe development project had been opened, and the two bids received were much higher than expected. Project engineers with SEH estimated the cost at approximately $1.5 million however the lowest bid received was $2.4 million from Sharpe Enterprises. The other bid was from Hulstein at $2.8 million.
“SEH is researching why they came in so high,” said Powell. “Concerns of the depth of the new sewer line, chances of another wet year... the cost of de-watering and extra mobilization costs seem to be the factors.”
Powell explained that SEH is working on a redesign that would include the installation of lift station that would allow the sewer line to be raised. He expected they could be ready to re-bid in a couple of weeks.
