Father’s Day on the river

Checking on a diesel powered irrigation pump every few hours around the clock over Father’s Day weekend would not be considered a holiday on the river for most but for Rob Brown, manager of the American Creek Campground, it was. Brown and his son Ryan and other friends rigged up an old irrigation pump (on the left) with a 12-inch pipe to drain the campground of flood water once the river level dropped. Pumps went to work last Saturday morning and by Monday much of the deep water had been pumped over the dike and back into the river. Brown stated the campground cancelled all reservations through July. Depending on how fast the area dries up and cleaning can start will determine if the campground will re-open in August
