Gas drops below two dollars

The New Year has ushered in the cheapest national gas prices average in three years of $2.25 per gallon, which is slightly higher than the statewide average in South Dakota of $2.19. According to Marilyn Buskohl, South Dakota AAA spokesperson, as of Friday, January 4 the highest gas price in the state was reported at Newell, SD at $2.76, while the lowest was $1.70 at Canistota. “That’s a wide spread,” said Buskohl, who attributes the difference to the cost of transporting the fuel from the refinery. “Depending on what refinery the fuel comes from.... how far it has to be trucked, makes the difference.”
