Local Scouts volunteer at community garden

With the coronavirus pandemic keeping residents of the Sanford Long Term Care Center confined to their rooms much of the day, the new Activities Director Samantha Moody was looking for something to brighten their day. After consulting with the Chamber of Commerce office, Moody contacted the local Scouts BSA Troop 249B and 249G to see if they were interested in taking on the task of planting the community garden located near the Care Center. Last Sunday, troop leaders and scouts tilled and planted corn, watermelon, pumpkins, squash, sunflowers, and marigolds. According to Assistant Scout Master Jared Hanzlik, six scouts have volunteered to weed the garden weekly. Moody stated that “if” they have a harvest they plan to use the produce at the Harvest festival in the fall. Photo courtesy Angi Hanzlik
