School board approves one-year pilot program to allow freshman to ride the bus
The Chamberlain School Board reviewed the recommendation from the transportation work group at the meeting Monday night. The workgroup advised the board to allow first year freshmen to ride to and from school on the buses. The original presentation from the workgroup stated that the current bus routes could be modified to allow for more riders without creating any additional expense to the district. However, upon further discussion with Foreman Busing and review of the routes the district would incur additional expense of approximately $19,242 for the busing increase. This increase doesn’t include additional expense for an additional bus monitor.
Board member Jerri Ann Haak asked, “if busing makes a difference as to whether a student stayed or came into the district, what would that mean financially for the district?”
