Traditions remain strong for SD’s Pheasant hunting opener

Communities across South Dakota rolled out the orange carpet for pheasant hunters, Saturday, October 21, for the 2017 pheasant hunting season opener.
Local motels and other businesses in the Chamberlain/Oacoma area saw many hunters over the weekend. Large SUV’s and pickup trucks are the normal means of transportation to central South Dakota for annual pheasant season opener. But for some, a quick trip by airplane or helicopter is the way to go. A bright blue Robinson R44 helicopter arrived at the marina parking lot north of Arrowwood Friday night after a short 3-hour flight from the Minneapolis area. Pilot Jesse stated that while it is a 4-seater, its size does not allow much space for hunting equipment. Others in the Minnesota group drove to Oacoma for a weekend of pheasant hunting.
