Ray E. Olson
Funeral services for Ray E. Olson, 79, of Chamberlain will be 10:30 am Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Ola, SD with burial in the Union Cemetery at Bijou Hills, SD. Visitation will begin Friday at 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain. Ray E. Olson, 79, of Chamberlain passed away on August 12, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Ray Emerson Olson was born August 16, 1938 at Bijou Hills to Emerson M.F. and Maurine J. (Boock) Olson. He was raised on a farm south of Chamberlain and attended Gunderson Country School in the Bijou Hills area. He moved to Oklahoma City, OK where he received his education and was employed as a draftsman. On April 12, 1963, Ray was united in marriage to Linda Housley at Oklahoma City, OK. Ray was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was on the church board in Ola, SD. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed his time visiting with his many friends and Rev. Ron Pulscher. His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren. This time was cherished and meant the world to him. Gratefully sharing his life are his son David R. (Sharmel) Olson of Chamberlain, SD; daughter Deborah L. Swenson of Mitchell, SD; sisters Nola Maxon of Chamberlain, and Lyla (Doug) Adams of Moorcroft, WY; seven grandchildren: James Roth, April Roth, Jessica Olson, Levi Olson, Grady Olson, and Norah Olson; four great grandchildren Tamzin Roth, Tenely Roth, Lydell Roth, and Jude Roth; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; son Steven Olson, grandson Patrick Roth, brother Lynn Olson, sister Connie Olson, sister-in-law Joyce Olson, and brother-in-law Larry Maxon.
