Agnes Elaine Ekstrum

Agnes Elaine Ekstrum, 82, of Kimball, SD passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services are 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Kimball Protestant Parish, Kimball with Pastor Derek Runge officiating.

A Committal Service will follow at Kimball Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 10, 2020 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. Mount Funeral Home of Kimball is assisting with arrangements.

Agnes Elaine (Arhart) Ekstrum was born September 2, 1937 to Alfred and Clara (Feistner) Arhart on a farm near Alpena, SD. She attended rural school and graduated high school from Lane, SD. She went on to receive her two-year elementary degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and taught school in Clark and Chamberlain, SD.

On August 12, 1962, she married Richard Ekstrum of Kimball, SD. They were blessed with two daughters, Lori and Marcee. They lived on the farm south of Kimball for over 50 years.

Agnes was involved with the Brule County Porkettes and Cowbelles. She taught Sunday School, confirmation and Wednesday Release Time classes at Emanuel Lutheran Church, in Kimball. Being a member of the church women’s circle was fulfilling for her.

Agnes loved her Golden Retriever dogs, collected books and angels, and enjoyed baking. She was a member of the Angels Collector’s Club.

Through many years with Farm Bureau, Agnes and Richard traveled extensively and made many friends.

Grateful for sharing Agnes’ life are, her daughters: Lori (Kevin) Quimby of Sioux Falls, SD and Marcee Ekstrum of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Diane (Harlan) Thompson of Emerson, NE; sister-in-law, Phyllis Arhart of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in law and sister-in-law, Duane and Sheryn Ekstrum of Kimball, SD; sister-in-law, Karlene Morris of Pasadena, CA, brother-in-law and sisterin-law, Charles and Nancy Ekstrum of Philip, SD and brother-in-law and sister-inlaw, John and Jill Ekstrum of Kimball, SD; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death were: her husband, Richard (Sept. 11, 2015); her parents, Alfred and Clara; stepfather, Leonard Sheffield; sister, Alice (Gene) Olson; two brothers: LeRoy Arhart and LaVerne (Judy) Arhart; brother-in-law, Donald Ekstrum; sister-in-law, Jane Ekstrum; and brother-in-law, Robert Morris.
