Corlena Koranda

Corlena Mary “Toots” Koranda, 94, of Kimball, SD went to live with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. Memorial Mass is 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball. A Committal Service will follow at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 14, 2016 with a 7:00 P.M. Rosary and Wake Service. Mount Funeral Home of Kimball is assisting with arrangements. Corlena Mary (VanDenBerg) Koranda was born on March 17, 1922 to Pete and Mary (Verwolf) VanDenBerg in Oral, SD. On December 23, 1938 Corlena and Edward Koranda were united in marriage in Boyd, NE. From this union 11 children were born: Patricia, Lawrence (Pat), Marlene, Marlys, Robert (Nancy), Thomas (Sandy), Karen, Sandra (Edwin), Gloria (Perry), Sherrie (Dennis) and one child that passed away in infancy. Together they farmed in South Dakota until retiring in 1981. After her husband passed away, Toots started working at the Kimball Senior Center in the kitchen until she was 90 years young. Grateful for having shared in Corlena’s life: eight children; 41 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; four great-great-great grandchildren; a brother, Fritz; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Corlena was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward; two daughters: Patricia and Karen; one child in infancy; her parents; and five sisters: Esther, Tony, Betty, Janette and Joanne. Needless to say Corlena  and Edward’s legacy will live on and on for many generations to come.
