Funeral services for Darlene M. Hood, 61, of Lower Brule, SD were Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule with burial in the Messiah Episcopal Cemetery at Iron Nation, SD. Wake services were Wednesday and Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center at Lower Brule. Darlene Mae Hood was born April 4, 1956 at Chamberlain to Matthew Grass Rope and Rebecca (Charging Whirl Wind) Johnson. She grew up in Little Bend at Lower Brule and attended school at Crow Creek High School. She then attended the Kicking Horse Job Corp in Missoula, MT. Darlene began working in the accounts receivable department for the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in the 1990’s. On August 11, 1977, Darlene was united in marriage to Bates Hood, Sr. at Chamberlain, SD. In her spare time, Darlene loved spending time with her grandchildren as they were her pride and joy. Darlene passed away on December 30, 2017 at her home in Lower Brule, SD at the age of 61 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her husband Bates Hood, Sr. of Lower Brule; sons Bates Hood, Jr., Brent (Claudia) Hood, Sr., and Llewellyn Hood all of Lower Brule; two daughters Trudy Hood and Lovetta Hood both of Lower Brule; several grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her father Matthew GrassRope; mother Rebecca Johnson; brother Michael Charging Whirl Wind; and sister Jeanette Charging Whirl Wind.
