Funeral services for Dennis Kerwin, 83, of White Lake, SD formerly of Chamberlain were held Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain.
Dennis F. Kerwin was born June 4, 1936 at Presho, SD to William and Bridgette (Schoenfelder) Kerwin. He attended grade school in Kennebec and graduated from Kennebec High School. Dennis was drafted into the U.S. Military during the Korean War and after his discharge returned to the Kennebec area before moving to Chamberlain. He began working as a truck driver for Rich Cleland. On May 1, 1964, Dennis was united in marriage to Rhoda Wells at the Lady of the Sioux Chapel at St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain. They made their home in Chamberlain where Dennis continued working for Rich, later for Gary Goodman and finally for Louie Knox. After retiring from trucking, he began work at Lee's Motor Inn and later for St. Joseph's Indian School. He retired completely in 2007 and they remained in Chamberlain before moving to Sioux Falls. In 2012, Dennis and Rhoda moved into the Southridge Nursing Home in Sioux Falls. During high school he was an avid baseball player and loved the Atlanta Braves. Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Jaycees and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Dennis passed away on June 16, 2019 at the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Rhoda of White Lake; five children Pat Kerwin of Chamberlain, SD; Leslie Martinez of Fairmont, MN; Bart Kerwin of Sioux Falls, SD; Kali (Chris) Sabatka of Mankato, MN; and Kasey Kerwin of Vancouver, WA; a sister Marge Vogel of Aberdeen, SD; 13 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers Bill, Joe, and Robert Kerwin; and two infant grandchildren.
