Donald W. Adamson

Funeral services for Donald W. Adamson, 77, of Chamberlain were Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Oacoma Community Center at Oacoma with burial in the Graceland Cemetery at Oacoma. Visitation began Thursday with family present at 5:00 pm and a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain. Donald W. Adamson, 77, of Chamberlain, passed away on August 6, 2018 at home in Chamberlain. Donald W. Adamson was born July 14, 1941 at Mitchell, SD to Earl and Jean (Overgaard) Adamson. He attended country school at the Rush, Roethler, and Olson Country Schools in the Bijou Hills area. In January of 1962, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army and after 23 years received an Honorable Discharge in 1985. Don was united in marriage to Darlene Dimick on April 14, 1962 and to this union three boys were born Danny, DeNell, and Dale. They made their home in Chamberlain where Don began working as a delivery driver for Riverside Dairy. In 1964, he began his fifty plus year career with the Chamberlain Public School System as a janitor and then as a bus driver. Don bought a shoe shop in 1981 naming it Don’s Shoe Repair. He enjoyed working with his cattle and horses along with haying. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Darlene of Chamberlain; three sons Danny Adamson, DeNell (Julie) Adamson, and Dale Adamson all of Chamberlain; three grandchildren Jaica (Adam) Donaldson, Miranda (Brandon) Synhorst, and Shelby Adamson; four great grandchildren Madyson and Eli Donaldson and Melody and Avey Lowry; 10 step great grandchildren; a brother Jimmie (Vaye Jean) Adamson of Chamberlain; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Earl and Jean Adamson; grandparents John and Cora Overgaard; and grandfather William Adamson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Senior Citizens Center, 219 N Main, Chamberlain, SD 57325 or the Central Plains Church, PO Box 193, Oacoma, SD 57365.
