JoAnn K. Houser
Memorial Services for JoAnn K. Houser, 83, of Oacoma, SD will be on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Oacoma Community Center (OCC) in Oacoma. Burial of ashes will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Oacoma; with luncheon to follow at OCC. JoAnn K. Houser was born on January 22, 1935 to Raymond and Aileen (Lester) Hickey in Lyman, SD. She attended school in Oacoma and Chamberlain. On June 1, 1952 she married Lorne L. Houser in Chamberlain, SD. From this union four children were born: Dan, Greg, Susan and Mike. She was active in her community as a Cub Scout Leader and volunteered on the Oacoma Centennial Committee. She also sold Avon and worked at several places. But most of all she enjoyed being a homemaker; she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning and cooking/baking. She and Lorne both loved to play cards with friends and they would take turns hosting card parties. When Lorne retired in 1989; they traveled the United States with their camper visiting their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona where they met many lifelong friends; and returning to Oacoma during the summer months. JoAnn passed away on her birthday, January 22, 2018 at Sanford Chamberlain Care Center in Chamberlain, SD. Gratefully sharing in her life is her four children Dan (Merry) of Des Moines, IA, Greg (Debra) of Gillette, WY, Susan (Doug) Wittenhagen of Holdrege, NE and Mike (Michelle) of S. Cle Elum, WA; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; 2 sisters Peggy Reis of Oacoma, SD, Coleen Short of Piedmont, SD and 1 brother Roland Hickey of Oacoma, SD; and multiple nieces and nephews that called her “Grandma Jo”.Preceding her in death is her husband, her parents and 2 brother-in-law’s Gordon (Bus) Reis and Lloyd Short; 2 nephews Randy Reis, Rod Hickey and a niece Lori (Harmon) Koch.
