William L. “Bill” Comp
Memorial services for William L. “Bill” Comp, 65, of Presho, SD will be 11:00 am Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Presho. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date. Bill Comp, 65, of Presho, SD passed away on July 6, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by family and friends. William L. “Bill” Comp was born September 30, 1952 in Winner, SD to Corwin and Nellie (Hauschel) Comp. He grew up in the Presho area and attended country school until moving to town school during second grade. He graduated in 1971 from West Lyman High School in Presho. In 1980, Bill met the love of his life Cherry Green and the two married in Winner, SD on May 2, 1981. During their 37 years of marriage, they lived and worked on the family farm in Presho and later moved to White River to help Cherry’s grandfather for a few years before making a permanent home in Presho around 1988. After moving back, Bill worked at the Presho elevator, Dakota Southern Railroad, and Presho Livestock. He ended his working career with the Lyman County Highway Department before retiring in 2017. When Bill wasn’t busy working, his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his very close friend Lyle Linderman. He loved being around his grandchildren and attending their events. He also enjoyed being able to teach all of them how to fish and going hunting with his grandson. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Cherry of Presho, SD; son Cody Comp and wife Rachelle of Chamberlain; daughter Billie Jo Herr of Sioux Falls; grandson Jamie; granddaughters Allison, Payton, Devyn, and Addison; brothers Wayne (Susan) Comp of Murdo, Curt (Tami) Comp of Winner, Allen (Kelley) Comp of Rapid City, Art Comp of Presho; sisters Alice (Larry) Cole of Rapid City and Connie Comp of Murdo; his mother and father-in-law Everett and Aureline Green of White River; brother-in-law Tony (Connie) Green of White River; sister-in-law Vicky Hovey of Murdo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Bernie Green; and sister-inlaw Cindy Peacock.
