Funeral services for Zarayah D. Walters, 16, of Lower Brule, SD were held on December 27, 2016 at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Christ Episcopal Cemetery at Fort Thompson.
Zarayah Dawn Walters was born January 17, 2000 at 7:59 am at the Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain to Monique Walters and Narcisse Johnson. Zarayah was the first baby in the family when she was born. She filled our lives with love, laughter, and joy. Zarayah loved her Oakland Raiders and hanging out with her friends, chilling with her brother Tyler, playing Black Ops 3, cooking and going on trips with her grandma Pooh-Pooh. She may not have admitted it but she liked to spend time with her siblings and little cousins. Mostly liked to tease and torment them. Zarayah attended school at Lower Brule Headstart, Elementary, and High School. She was a member of the JROTC Color Guard. She worked for summer youth but hustled every day of her life.
Zarayah died in her home December 20, 2016 at the age of 16 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her mother Monique Walters; dad Lawrence LaRoche; father Narcisse Johnson; sisters Hayley Kirkie, Mya LaRoche, and Lexus LaRoche; brothers Lawrence LaRoche, Tristain and Raymond Johnson; grandparents Myron Walters/ Ziegler, Sr., Victoria Flute, and Grandma Pooh-Pooh Ardie Marshall; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Preceding her in death were her little cousin Mason J. Naser, great grandmothers Rev. Deacon Caroline Jones and Glenda Hill, and her uncle Mike Ziegler.
Zarayah was strong, independent, and rebellious. To all my barbs....Don’t cry for me!
