Amelia Jones captures All-around gymnasts
Chamberlain gymnasts participated in a JV and middle school meet on Mon., Jan.13, in Pierre.
Jones, an eighth grader, was competing against Pierre, a Class AA school, and Stanley County. Usually she competes against varsity teams, but she had the chance to compete in her own age group, and was able to step up to the challenge of a AA school and won the All-around (32.32), Beam (8.05), Vault (8.65) and Floor (8.35). She also finished in fourth place on the Bars (7.30).
Kathrinn Hopkins was the only other place winner with a fifth on the Vault with a score of 8.30.
Five personal best records were achieved at the meet. Keeleigh had three and , Kathrinn Hopkins had one on the bars and Jones win on the Vault was a new high score for her.
Pierre won their meet with 122.50 points. Chamberlain finished second with 115.95 points and Stanley County was third with 106.75 points.
Middle School gymnasts claim another first place
The CMS gymnasts defeated Pierre on the bars and Floor to put the team in first place and nearly break the school record on 101.90. The Lady Cubs tallied 101.10 points while Pierre had 99.80 points. Stanley County wasn't far behind with 97.30 points.
Grace VanderLey placed fourth on the Beam (6.60), second on the Bars (5.60) and All-around (25.45).
Cedar Hawk received a third place on the Floor (6.75), tied for fifth on the Bars (5.45), sixth on the Vault (7.35) and fourth in the All-around (25.05).
Tina Skustad tied for fourth place on the Floor (6.30),tied for fourth on the Bars (5.45) and third in the All-around (25.20).
Shelby Shrake tied for fourth on the Floor 96.30) and it was her highest score on the floor thus far.
Selah DuVall had a personal record to take fifth place on the Bars with a score of 5.45.
