Cubs lose a heart-breaker

The Friday night lights were on at the Don Giese Field as Chamberlain hosted the No. 5 team in Class 11B, the Winner Warriors, in a homecoming football game held on Fri., Sept. 28. The Chamberlain Cubs played with heart for the entire four quarters, but fell short at the end, losing 40-42.

The Cubs were leading after the first quarter by a score of 13-8. Jazz Dominguez connected with Marty Ross for a 27-yard touchdown. Max Donovan kicked the extra point for a 7- 0 lead. Winner fumbled the ball on their first possession placing the ball on the Cubs 35-yard line. After six plays, the Cubs moved the ball 61 yards into the end zone for their second TD. With Nash Hutmacher's strength, he was able to bulldoze his way through the defensive line to score the touch down from two yards out. An illegal procedure penalty against the Cubs moved the ball back five yards, and the extra point kick was no good. Chamberlain led the Warriors, 13-0 Winner's quarterback, Brady Fritz, scored the Warriors first touchdown. The Warriors ran six plays for 53 yards and scored the two point conversion. Chamberlain maintained their lead, 13-8.
