Cubs place 7th at State Tournament

Cubs defeated by Tri-Valley in Round 1 of State A Tournament
SIOUX FALLS – The Chamberlain Cubs lost their quest for a State A championship title on the opening round of the three-day tournament. Chamberlain, the second seed, was pitted against the seventh seed, Tri-Valley. Tri-Valley came into the tournament with a 14-6 record, and had defeated the three teams Chamberlain lost to during the regular season, Madison, Sioux Falls Christian and Dell Rapids. The Cubs lost the battle by a score of 59-47.
Both teams struggled to make their shots at the beginning of the game. Tri-Valley did score first, but the Cubs put up five missed shots before Tiegen Priebe was fouled and made both his free throws. After two minutes of play, the score was tied at 2-2. Seth Friesz scored the next six points for the Cubs, and the Mustangs earned five points to give the Cubs an 8-7 lead with just under three minutes left in the quarter. Field goals by Dodge Knippling and Riggs Priebe, along with two free throws made by Friesz, gave the Cubs a 14-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
