Lady Cubs hold off Wall Eagles

The Lady Eagles traveled to Chamberlain to play a non-conference girls' basketball game against the Lady Cubs on Tues. Jan.14.

Mya Knippling and Caycee Guinn scored all the points in the opening quarter with nine and four points respectively. The Lady Cubs finished the period with a 13-9 lead.

Emma Powers scored four points to start the second period followed by Hannah Anderson’s two consecutive baskets for the first four of her 18 points in the game. Kinsey Evans and Jayslee Petersen came off the bench scoring four and two points, respectively. At the half, the Lady Cubs had a nine-point advantage over the Eagles with the score soaring to 29-20.

Wall came to within four points of the Lady Cubs in the third quarter, but the Cubs were able to stay ahead of the Eagles and had a 44-33 lead after three periods.

In the final quarter, the Lady Cubs outscored the Eagles 14-13 to win the contest, 58-46.

Three Cubs scored in double figures with two having double-doubles. Mya Knippling had 13 points and 14 rebounds while Hannah Anderson put up 18 points and collected 10 rebounds. Caycee Guinn tallied 12 points in the win. Emma Powers had seven points, Kinsey Evans scored four, Jayslee Petersen had two points as did Makenzie Mutziger.

After stealing the ball from an Eagle player, Emma Powers dribbled to the other end of the court to score two points for the Lady Cubs. Powers had seven points in the game.
