St. Thomas More defeats Cubs
The Chamberlain Cubs opened their basketball season against the Class A No. 1 rated team in the state, St. Thomas More of Rapid City, at the Chamberlain Armory on Fri., Dec. 13. The Cubs played against five Cavalier seniors that finished in fifth place last year at the state tournament. The Cub starters include juniors, Cameron Caldwell, Drayton Priebe, Hayden Evans, Kolby Hyland and sophomore Sellyck McManus. Chamberlain trailed throughout the game, but came close in the third period when Sellyck McManus scored four points to bring the score to 30-38. McManus led the team with 18 points making nine of 12 shots.
He pulled down 9 rebounds and had one assist. Drayton Priebe had 12 points and six assists. Cameron Caldwell chipped in 11 points, stole the ball five times and had three assists. Hayden Evans had nine points, all from three-point baskets and had two assists. Kolby Hyland grabbed six rebounds, scored two points and had two assists before fouling out of the game. For the Cavs, Ryder Kirsch and Caden Casey each had 21 points with Casey hitting five 3-pointers. Connor Hollenbeck added 17 points.
