With vaccines and tests, The Masks Corona is one of the three main tools in the fight against the virus. But which material is better, how do they filter the particles, and how should we take care of them?

Experts now recommend masks like N95, KN95 and KF94, which have obvious advantages over surgical and above all cloth, the next best option is to use a dual mask.

Why are fabric masks not the best choice?

Handmade masks are less effective because most leave a gap near the nose and cheeks, from where one can inhale droplets containing corona virus, while the pores in the cloth are usually not small enough to easily pass through.

Why should I choose the N95 mask?

Many countries, including Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, have imposed the use of N95 masks, which are designed to “achieve a good fit on the face and adequate filtration of particles in the air”. In addition, they have a denser fiber network than surgical or fabric fibers made of polypropylene, which is 10 times more capable of “catching” particles, USA Today points out.

The key with the N95 is the perfect fit: there should be no gaps around the nose, cheeks or chin. Used properly, they can withstand a great deal of adverse conditions.

N95 masks are not designed for beards, but they still provide better protection in such cases, according to a study. Although the protection of KF94 and KN95 is significantly reduced by long beards, they still prove to be a better choice than cotton.

How to Reuse N95 Mask

Leave the mask on at room temperature for at least 3-4 days. By then all viruses should be dead. It is best to isolate the mask at the breathing area.

According to the CDC, the N95 mask containing blood, nasal secretions or other body fluids should be discarded and not reused. The same goes for the damaged mask.

Never use detergents such as alcohol or bleach. Liquids, including soap and water, can damage a fiber network designed to “catch” particles and droplets.

Steps for Safe Reuse of KN95 Masks

– After applying KN95, remove the mask and place in a paper bag so it “breathes”. WARNING: Do not use plastic bag.

– Cover the bag at room temperature.

– Wash your hands thoroughly.

– Put the mask in the bag for three to four days and all the viruses in it are considered dead.

– It can be reused on day 4-5.
